What's new in the ArcGIS REST API for 10

Map Service Changes:

• The Map Service resource now supports standalone tables in addition to layers.
• The layer resource now represents either a table or a layer.
• The layer / table response now includes information regarding the relationships it participates in.
• The layer / table response now includes its domains and sub-types.
• The layer / table response now includes its renderer and labeling info for feature layers.
• The query operation can now return only the object / feature IDs in addition to returning a featureset. Clients can accomplish "paging" with this functionality.
• The query operation now supports querying based on objectIds.
• The query operation now supports f=amf.
• The query operation now supports a new spatial relationship esriSpatialRelRelation and an associated relationParam.
• The query operation now returns additional fields array (JSON and AMF only) that contains array of field information for returned values.
• A new query related records operation has been added.
• A new feature resource has been added.
• Time-aware map services and layers are now supported
  • Map Service: includes a new timeInfo property in the response

• Identify and Find operations now support a new layerDefs parameter. The Export operation supports a new JSON syntax for the layerDefs parameter.

Feature Service:

• This is a new service introduced at 10 for editing features and records.
• The Feature Service resource publishes editable layers and tables.
• The layer resource represents the editable layer or table.
• The query and query related records operations can be performed on layers and tables.
• The query operation now supports a new spatial relationship esriSpatialRelRelation and an associated relationParam.
• The add, update, delete and apply edits operations can be used for editing features.
• The feature resource represents a feature in a layer or table.
• The attachment infos resource returns information about attachments associated with a feature.
• The attachment resource represents an individual attachment associated with a feature.
• The HTML popup resource returns information about the HTML popup associated with a feature.
• The add attachment, update attachment and delete attachments operations can be used for editing attachments.

Geometry Service Changes

• The following new operations were added:
  Convex Hull   Densify   Distance   Generalize   Offset   Trim / Extend   Autocomplete   Cut   Difference   Intersect   Reshape   Union
• The Lengths operation now supports units and geodesic distances.
• The Areas and Lengths operation now supports lengthUnit, areaUnit and geodesic parameters.

Network Analysis Service Changes

• A new solve closest facility operation has been added.
• A new solve service area operation has been added.
• The solve route operation now supports the following new parameters: attributeParameterValues, polylineBarriers and polygonBarriers

Image Service Changes:

• The Image Service resource now returns the accessible fields of the image service.
• The Export Image operation now supports a new mosaicRule parameter. The mosaicProperties and viewpointProperties parameters have been deprecated.
• The Export Image operation now supports a new renderingRule parameter.
• The Export Image operation now supports a new jpgpng format.
• A new query operation has been added to query the raster catalog.
• A new download rasters operation and raster file resource have been added.
• New raster catalog item, raster image, raster thumbnail and raster info resources have been added.
• The Image Server query and export operations, now support an additional time parameter.
• The Image Server supports a new identify operation.

GP Service Changes

• Support for a new GPMultiValue data type has been added. It is supported both as an input parameter as well as a result parameter. Both submit job and execute operations support GPMultiValue parameters.
• The GPDate input parameter for the submit job and execute operations now accepts a numeric input - the number of milliseconds since epoch (January 1, 1970) in UTC. The original JSON structure input for GPDate parameters has been deprecated.
• The GPDate result parameter for the submit job and execute operations is now a number - the number of milliseconds since epoch (January 1, 1970) in UTC. The original string representation for GPDate result parameters has been deprecated.

Geocode Service

• Find Address Candidates supports a new outSR parameter that enables clients to specify an output spatial reference.
• Locators published using ArcGIS 10 support a new single line address field.
• Reverse Geocode supports a new outSR parameter that enables clients to specify an output spatial reference.

Mobile Service:

• The standalone mobile service was introduced at 10.
• The Mobile Service and Mobile Layer resources can be viewed in the Services Directory.

Service Extensions:

• Support for REST-enabled service extensions was introduced at 10.
• Currently, REST only supports extensions to map services.

Spatial Reference Objects now support wkt in addition to wkid.

• Resources and operations that support spatial references as input, now support this object as well.
• These resources and operations include:
  Export Map, Identify, Find, Query Layer, Execute Task, Submit Job, GP Result, Export Image, Solve Route as well as all Geometry Service operations.

Programmatic access to the REST Admin:
